Medical Devices
Bone screws, spinal implants, dental abutments, catheter components, surgical instrument shafts. Medical is the single largest market for Swiss turning. The combination of tight tolerances (±0.0002" or better), biocompatible materials (titanium, cobalt-chrome, 316L stainless), small diameters, and high volumes makes Swiss the only viable process. A bone screw with a complex thread profile, hex drive, and polished finish comes off a Swiss machine complete — no secondary ops.
Electronics & Connectors
Pin contacts, socket terminals, RF connectors, fiber optic ferrules, test probe tips. The connector industry runs on Swiss. Millions of tiny, precise brass and phosphor bronze pins turned to ±0.0005" with knurls, flats, cross-holes, and plating-ready finishes. High-volume production with cycle times measured in seconds per part.
Automotive
Fuel injector components, ABS sensor housings, valve stems, fastener blanks, turbocharger shaft details. Swiss handles the precision small parts that live inside larger automotive assemblies — the components where failure means a recall. Production volumes of 100K+ per year are common.
Firearms & Defense
Firing pins, ejector pins, barrel inserts, trigger components, fuse assemblies. The defense industry values Swiss for its ability to hold tight tolerances on hardened materials at production volumes. Stainless steel and alloy steel parts with complex OD profiles and cross-holes are standard Swiss work.
Hydraulics & Pneumatics
Valve spools, piston rods, fitting bodies, orifice details. Precision bores and OD fits to ±0.0002" in brass, stainless, and carbon steel. Swiss excels at the small-diameter spool valves and needle valves that conventional turning can't hold straight.
Watchmaking & Instruments
The original Swiss application. Movement shafts, gear arbors, stem components, indicator spindles. Diameters from 0.020" to 0.250" with surface finishes to 8 μin Ra. This is where the technology was born and the tolerances are still the tightest.
